Choose Your Own Nuthouse

Section 46

(Craig)

You see the lake up ahead and decide to steer the rapidly accelerating vehicle toward it.  This doesn’t take much work because it is a lake, and a rather large one at that.  As long as you don’t turn the car more than ninety degrees in either direction (a move that would be extremely unwise considering your speed) you are going to drive into the lake…

…Which is precisely what you do.  Your car plows into the water and continues forward until enough of the car is submerged to the point necessary to kill your momentum.  You are relatively unharmed by the sudden deceleration thanks to your seat belt.  John, who unfortunately was strapped in as well, appears to be unconscious.

You are about to breath a sigh of relief when you notice that the car is sinking.  Seems that after a short distance, the lake drops off real good.  A distance that was covered by your car.  Well, phooey.

As your car sinks below the surface of the water, you struggle with the seat belt.  After a few moments of panicked fumbling, you manage to press the release button and try to open your door so you can swim to the surface.

You aren’t surprised when the door doesn’t open.  You lean back over the unconscious John and try to kick out the window of the door.  All you succeed in doing is really hurting your foot.  Damn, the movies always make that look so easy.

As you are leaning back on John, you notice the cracks in the passenger side window that John made with his head.  You reposition yourself in the front seat and manage to kick out that window.  Water rushes in fills up the car.  Once the car is completely full, you swim past John (fuck him, you aren’t about to waste time trying to save that psycho) and out the window.

Suddenly, just as you clear the window, Johns hand lashes out and catches hold of your ankle and you are dragged down by the sinking car.  You kick at John’s hand but he holds fast.

            You sink deeper.

You kick harder and harder at his hand.

            You sink deeper.

You give one last thrust with both feet and mange to break his hold.  As John and the car sink into oblivion, you start your frantic swim up.  All the kicking as expended a lot of your oxygen and the surface is a long way up.

<>            You swim as hard and fast as you can for what feel like forever, but you are still underwater.  Your lungs are burning and you want nothing more than to inhale, a move that would lead to your death.  You hold out for as long as you can, desperately trying to reach the surface.

Just as you are about to reach the surface…
